What is Natural Building?
Natural building is so much more than just building with natural materials; it is about reconnecting with our ancestral roots and our natural environment. It’s about building beautiful, durable, healthy and spiritually uplifting buildings as well as building relationships with people and the planet along the way. It’s about observing and respecting the world around us, consciously using local, renewable and sustainable materials to creating buildings that work in harmony with our mind, body and soul, and the environment it inhabits.
What will you learn?
This course will mostly be a practical hands on learning experience; you will be connecting with the earth and building with mud from day one.
You will learn how to;
Test clay sub-soils and use the results to create the perfect earth mix
Make and build using adobe, wattle and cob/daub and earthbags
Mix and apply natural plasters and paints
We will integrate theory sessions throughout the course along with presentations and documentaries in the evenings.

Sam has been studying, practising and teaching permaculture since his first exposure to it at La Courdemiere in France in 2007. It was at this time that he first began building with natural materials by helping to renovate an old stone house with stone and lime. Straight away he was struck by how simple it is to create strong, healthy, beautiful, and cheap, houses. He was both inspired and empowered by this realisation, which he now loves to share and see in others. Since then he has constructed natural buildings made of cob, adobe, super adobe, earthbag, straw bail, timber, cord wood, and a couple of yurts. He has practised natural building in many parts of Europe and Asia across different climatic zones and conditions. He also likes to build pizza ovens and thermal mass heaters using the exact same principals and materials used in house construction.
Tirtah Quddus Farm is located in the beautiful tropical Rainforest of Pahang, central Malaysia, only about 30 mins drive away from Kuala Lumpur.
